I still brew a new pot of coffee everyday, but now I stretch my dollar by saving some of the coffee that would otherwise be dumped down the drain. I used to waste lots of coffee by making a new pot of coffee each morning. Then the next day I would dump the old pot of coffee and make a new one. What can I say I like the great taste of good gourmet coffee. The bitter taste of old coffee wasnt doing it for me. Then one day I had a good idea, I decided to start saving my coffee to make a cold coffee drink later. Since I dont like to drink hot coffee in the middle of a hot summer day, the iced coffee drink worked out perfectly.

Here is what I do to make my iced coffee drink, it cuts down on wasted coffee and saves you money in the long run.

When the coffee has cooled off, pour the coffee into a mason jar. Then put the mason jar filled with cooled coffee in the refrigerator. Now when your looking for a nice cool drink to quench your thirst during the middle of the day, you can make an iced coffee drink.

Here is how I make my iced coffee drink:

Put ice in a glass,

Fill the glass about 3/4 full with your left over coffee,

Add your favorite flavored coffee creamer to taste

Stir it up and enjoy your iced coffee

Don’t Let Bad Coffee Hit Your Coffee Cups and Mugs

Everyone has had the Bad Coffee experience and not many of us are willing to try it again. Once you have had the Good Coffee experience there really is no going back!

Good coffee isn’t just as easy as percolating water through coffee grounds though. Bad coffee, of course, is really simple to make. But if you want the tastiest and freshest java for your morning wake up call, you need to take certain precautions before it even gets anywhere near your coffee mugs.

First of all, start with fresh cold water in your coffee machine if you want something delicious in your coffee cups. Steer clear of using water from the hot tap or water that has already boiled. For the best results in your coffee cups, fill your carafe with bottled or filtered water, especially if your home has old plumbing. Old pipes can leave an unpleasant flavor in your coffee mugs. This will also happen if you live in an area that heavily chlorinates its tap water or has very hard water.

The temperature of the water is also important to deciding what ends up in your coffee mugs. The best temperature for brewing tasty coffee is between 195 degrees and 205 degrees. If the water is too hot, it could leave a bitter taste in your mouth when you drink from these coffee cups. Water that is too cool, on the other hand, won’t suck out all of the flavor from your grounds, leaving no flavor in your mouth at all after sipping from these coffee mugs.

If you press brew your morning coffee cups, reach this optimal water temperature by letting your water wait for a moment after it comes to a boil. For your typical dip coffee machines, you can get a similar effect by pre-heating the pot. Do this by pouring hot water into the empty carafe, which will warm it, and then dump this water out to start brewing. This attention to detail will help to ensure that first mug of coffee is just what it should be.

Next, make sure you have the correct grind for your particular coffee machine. There is no, one all-purpose grind. You need to choose your coffee grinds from the two main groups, depending if you are using a press pot or an electric machine to fill your coffee cups. For press pots, you’ll want to grind your own beans for about 10 seconds in your typical, inexpensive blade grinder. This will leave your grinds at a medium to coarse consistency and make for delicious coffee mugs. For electric brewers and other drip machines, you’ll need to grind your own beans for about 15-20 seconds. This will result in a medium to fine grind, not to mention perfectly steamy coffee mugs.

There is nothing nicer after a hard days work to come home, put your feet up and relax with a delicious mug of coffee. Follow the simple guide above and be sure that what comes out your coffee mugs will hit the spot. Enjoy your coffee.

Coffee – A Thousand Variations!

After water, coffee is the most popular drink in the world. There are literally thousands of variations on the simple cup of coffee. Coffee beans grown in different parts of the world have different flavors, and coffee connoisseurs will only drink the finest regional coffees such as Hawaiian Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain. More common coffee can be flavored with oils during the roasting process to give it unique flavors. Many flavors such as Cinnamon, Hazelnut and vanilla can be found in any grocery store, but other more exotic flavors such as daffy taffy and cookiedoodle can only be found at specialty shops or online. The brewing process can also change the flavor of the coffee, creating even more variations. Interestingly, although there are thousands of types of coffee, all coffee beans are grown on just two different species of coffee plants, Arabica (Coffea Arabica) and Robusta (Coffea Canephora).

Arabica

Originally from the mountains of Ethiopia, Yemen and Sudan, Arabica (Coffea Arabica) was the first coffee to be cultivated and harvested. It has been grown in its native regions for over a thousand years, and is still grown there today. Arabica coffee plants require high elevations and cool temperatures to produce the best coffee beans, and can only be successfully grown in specific areas of the world. Although it can be difficult to grow, over seventy percent of coffee beans produced in the world are Arabica due to its superior flavor compared to Robusta.

Robusta

Robusta (Coffea Canephora) is the other type of coffee plant that is used to make coffee. Originally from central and western Africa, it is more robust than Arabica and can be successfully grown in many more areas than Arabica. It is also more resistant to disease and produces harvestable amounts of coffee beans in a much shorter time. Although it is much easier to grow Robusta, the beans have a “burnt” and bitter taste that is not popular with most coffee drinkers. Robusta beans are usually mixed with Arabica or used in coffee products where the subtleties of flavor are not an issue.

Dark Roast vs. Light Roast

The roasting process can significantly change the flavor of coffee. Coffee is classified as dark roast or light roast, with variations in between. The type of roast is determined by the amount of time the green coffee beans are roasted, lighter beans being roasted for a shorter time and darker beans roasted for a longer time. Roasting a coffee bean imparts its own flavor to the coffee and for this reason; coffee beans that are prized for their flavor, such as Jamaican Blue Mountain are usually given a light roast so the nuances and subtle flavors of the coffee itself are not removed. Arabica / Robusta blends and other everyday canned coffees are often given a dark roast to give the final product more of the “roast” flavor and less of the specific “bean” flavor. Cans of generic coffee found at supermarkets are often dark roasts. Most people intuitively think that darker roast coffee has more caffeine because it often tastes stronger, but the roasting process breaks down caffeine, so lighter roasts tend to have more.

Flavored Coffee

Flavored coffees are simply coffees that have had additional flavors added during or after the roasting process. Most commonly, the flavors are in the form of oils that are added after the beans have been roasted, but before they are ground. The oils used can evaporate rapidly once they are exposed to air, flavored coffee is often sold in tightly sealed or vacuum packed containers. Coffee can also be flavored after the brewing process by adding flavored syrup to the brew. Many coffee connoisseurs look down on flavored coffee, but for the average coffee drinker it is a tasty variation of a cup of coffee.

No matter what type of coffee you prefer, at some point you may need a replacement carafe. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a Black & Decker, Krups, or Cusinart Replacement Carafe, you can find the one that’s right for you at Replacement Carafe Net!
