Do you know what it means by green coffee? Well actually there is no such term as a cup of “green” coffee because coffee is black in colour! However, maybe you are referring to coffee beans which are green, that is untouched after being harvested! No I do not mean coffee beans which are green in colour, or some kind of farming method related or not related to organic farming which is green, i.e. environmentally friendly. This is not what I am talking about. When people talk about green and great coffee beans, they are talking about fresh and coffee original beans that have not been processed roasted or touched!

The good thing about making your own type of coffee is that you can choose the quality of the coffee beans that you like and roast it the way you want it to be. You can even mix your coffee varieties or different coffee flavours. You can choose to get the type of coffee roaster you want and how you want to roast your green coffee beans is up to you. Of course you cannot just do it anyhow and your way if not the coffee may taste bad. But roasting your own green and nice coffee beans can give you lots of freedom in the way you want your coffee. Besides, you can get any information or any type or make of green coffee beans online these days, not to mention a myriad of green coffee roasters that you can choose from too!

If you are thinking that roasting coffee is difficult think again. It is actually quite simple to roast your own coffee but with everything else you would need lots of practice and experience. Then there are also several methods and green coffee roasters that you can use to roast your beans. Some methods require attention to detail and more of time but are less expensive; others require a investment in more expensive equipment but will save you time. In the end it is all up to individual preference. Some of the methods commonly used include using the stovetop or gas or convection oven to roast your green nice coffee beans which is relatively fuss free when you have got a good quality gas oven or a high temperature convection oven or a stove at home but the problem is uneven roasting. Then there are some people who use popcorn poppers too to roast their beans.

No matter the method, I still think that you should get proper green coffee roasters because the above methods may result in a bad roast and in the end you are just wasting your green coffee beans or even worse your organic green coffee beans which can be more expensive. Every people have their own experiences to share when you talk about coffee, especially those who drink coffee from ages 18 and up. Many specialty coffee shops can be now found in almost any corner of the city, that’s because of our addiction to coffee. And because of this, I’m sure that those specialty coffee shops are making more money by serving thousands of caffeine lovers every day.

One of the fastest growing food industries in the world is the specialty coffee industry. These kind of shops are now almost every where. Try walking in the downtown area, and you will notice that there now a lot of shops serving caffeine lovers. To produce a gourmet or premium coffee, is should be grown in the world’s most ideal coffee producing climates, like in Costa Rica, and prepared according to exacting standards. And Specialty Coffee Association of America or SCAA set all these quality standards.

Specialty coffee industry have their own trade association, and this is SCAA. To maintain the quality, SCAA put standards for roasting, growing, and brewing of coffee. This association consists of coffee roasters, producers, retailers. Some coffee equipment manufacturers are also member of this association. As you may know, SCAA provide its own information of specialty coffee in terms of cupping, brewing, roasting, and more.

The first method, cupping, is the systematic evaluation of coffee beans based on its aroma and taste. This method is commonly used by coffee growers, buyers, and roasters to determine the quality of a specific coffee sample. There is a formal step-by-step evaluation process for doing a proper cupping and it requires the observance to an exacting set of brewing standards. A cupper generally looks for six characteristics to identify its quality, these include aroma, taste, fragrance, aftertaste, nose (vapors release by the coffee in the mouth), and body.

To enhance the taste of the coffee, proper brewing should be done. And it is properly done if the proper amount of flavor was extracted from the bean. The six essential elements of proper brewing are coffee to water ratio, optimum brewing method, properly operating brewing machine, a coffee grind that matches the brewing time, high quality water, and an appropriate filtering medium.

So, that is all. There is variety of reasons why premium coffee hit off the market. One, it needs to follow certain standards in order to produce a great tasting coffee drinks and simply because they taste better. If the coffee industry is continuous in implementing these high quality standards, it will continue to soar.

Do coffee drinkers perceive a difference between single origin coffee versus blended coffee? A scientific study was conducted by the University of Padova in collaboration with the Tasters Study Centre in order to provide a definitive answer to this question. In order to determine whether coffee drinkers can perceive a difference between single origin and blend, 350 taste tests were made at Padova according to standards established by the International Institute of Coffee Tasters coffee shop supplies. Among the contending coffees were a blend of Arabica coffees with seven ingredients of four different origins (namely Haiti XXXXX, Colombia Armenia Supremo, Ethiopia Sidamo, and Santo Domingo Barahona Toral AA). The group of tasters was half male and half female, age range between eighteen and sixty-four. The tasters were able to distinguish the blended coffee from the single origin coffee, preferring the blended coffee, in a way which is statistically significant. The study notes that coffee drinking has evolved as an art, with drinkers becoming more sophisticated in their tastes and at the same time fussier. This has caused a boom in coffee menus at restaurants, new niches in the coffee shop and bar sector, and selections of coffee type based upon sensory pleasure. Coffee roasters have also noticed the increased attentiveness and curiosity of coffee drinkers. Our society is increasingly producing people who are knowledgeable about taste and who are seeking new sensory experience. Brand loyalty doesn’t mean as much to these consumers as does qualitative excellence. The fact that tasters preferred the blend shows that roasters are very good at selecting coffees from distinct locations and bringing out the best characteristics of each in creating an unbeatable blend.

There are already many restaurants and bars which specialize in single origin coffee and supplies. Often the choice espressos change on a monthly basis, alternating between Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, etc. It is thought that consumer curiosity about single origin coffees is sparked by the ideas these places are connected with, rather than to genuine nuances in tastes. In the first place, the term “single origin” connotes a homogeneity of product which is not there. When consumers read the word “Brazil” on a bag of coffee they believe that all the coffee bearing that name is basically identical, which is not at all true. An example of a successful single origin marketing vision is Evancaffe, which introduced its menu of gourmet coffees into topnotch restaurants. In the beginning the clients were wary; but interest in single origin coffee has grown with the years. This was helped along by the enthusiasm of the proprietors and the maitres who ran the restaurants to promote single origin coffees.

Interest level varies with nation – in Italy it is noticeable that while there is a large interest in single origin coffees among the coffee drinking public, nonetheless restaurants and commercial coffee suppliers don’t seem to respond. At the present time single origin coffees are very much a small niche in the total volume of coffee marketed worldwide, but one that is bound to grow.

Commercial coffee suppliers should take note of the increasing interest in single origin coffee and supplies among knowledgeable consumers. Coffee shop supplies in the future will be geared more and more to single origin coffees.
