Coffee From Across the Globe

Coffee used to be simple for most. It was drip or instance and then black or with milk or sugar. Folgers was well known in plenty of homes. However, the times are changing. The coffee world has introduced thousands of options. There are plenty of choices in type, blend, country or origin, and style which confuses basically all of the world’s coffee drinkers.

Brazil is by far the world’s largest producer of coffee and has been for over a hundred years. This is because its climate and geography are perfect for coffee trees. Two of its most popular coffees are the Bahia and Minas Gerais.

Then there is the Colombian. It is the world’s second largest producer of coffee. It is known for its light and sweet taste. The Popayan and Narino coffees are said to be unmatched anywhere. These two countries produce the majority of the world’s coffee, but that does not mean there is not more to be experienced.

For instance, Mexico has quite unique coffee. These small beans are world renowned for their delicate and light taste and body. These beans give off a very mellow taste. Then there is the Cuban Cubano, which is strong and drank in small shots like liquor, quite similar to Spanish coffee.

Indonesia has well aged coffee. This is due to the warm and damp climate. This produces a more deep body and less acidity in the coffee. Indonesia is known as the world’s fourth largest producer.

Then there is Malaysia. This coffee is well known for its brewing style, which is done in a muslin bag. This produces a very strong cup of coffee. Although graded lower on the coffee scale, even the Liberica should definitely be sampled. Thailand is known for its iced coffee combined with condensed milk for a cold treat.

Mauna Loa is a sweet and very aromatic coffee which holds a medium body. The coffee from Sumatra is said to be right and full. Kenya produces a wide range of coffee but even the beans that grow at 17,000 feet are said to have an indescribable aftertaste.

The roasting and grinding of beans and then the process of filtering with hot water was developed sometime in the 15th century. Therefore, the Europeans will take a stand in the coffee world. France is known for its café au lait, or half coffee with half hot milk. Then there is Austria with its two thirds dark and one third regular combo.

Italy offers espresso unlike anyone else. Espresso contains less caffeine as well, so it’s a treat with a little less guilt. Espresso can also be added to hot milk with foam or hot foam with a little hot milk to dilute the strength a bit. This is known as latte or cappuccino. Still, there is the traditional American black coffee. Don’t be mean, try everyone’s varieties and find your favorite.

Where In the World Did Your Coffee Come From?

When it comes to coffee, it is not all about choosing between instant coffee and drip coffee and black coffee and coffee with milk and sugar any more. Although Americans used to be limited to a choice between Folgers and Maxwell House, there are now tons of different cups of coffee to be tried out. Coffee aficionados can try a different kind of coffee from a different place on the globe every day and hardly ever taste the same cup of coffee twice.

Coffee Around The World – Where’s The Best Cup of Joe?

Any world trip for coffee lovers would have to start in the world coffee capital of Brazil. This enormous country is the perfect coffee growing environment, with at least a third of the land space ideal for growing beans. Bahia and Minas Gerais are just two of the enormous number of different kinds of coffee grown in Brazil.

Although Brazil makes the most coffee, if you ask people to name a coffee producing country, they are likely to answer with Columbia. Tons of varieties of coffee beans are grown in Columbia, from rich and bold blends to light and sweet caffeinated delights like ‘supremo’ and ‘excelso’. Coffees made from beans like Popayan or Narino are considered to be among the best in the world. Of course, blends of the different beans grown in Columbia offer a whole new world of possibilities for coffee tastes.

Don’t count Mexico out when it comes to the coffee producing stakes. The small beans that are grown in Mexico produce coffee that has a delicate taste and very mellow acidity, giving it an overall light flavor. Last but not least in Latin America is Cuba, which brings its uber strong cafe cubano to the table. This coffee is so strong it is drunk like a shot of alcohol.

Outside of Latin America, a trip to South East Asia is ideal for coffee lovers. The warm, damp weather in Indonesia helps coffee beans grow there are low in acid and high in taste. In fact, Indonesian coffee is so popular that they are now the world’s fourth largest producer.

Malaysia is the challenger to Indonesia’s crown in the Asian coffee stakes. All coffee in Malaysia is brewed within a muslin bag, which means that is one strong cup of coffee.

If sweet coffee is your think, then Thailand is your place. Thai coffee has a touch of chicory, much like Parisian coffee, and it is usually sold cold, mixed with coconut milk and sugar. It is like dessert in a coffee cup.

There’s a world of coffee waiting to be explored, so what are you waiting for? Grab your cup and go!

How to Brew a Great Cup of Coffee

Nothing is better than sitting down with a perfectly made cup of your favorite coffee. These days you can make that cup of Joe in many different ways. The key is to know how to brew that perfect cup.

Brewing (drip machines)

A drip machine is the most common coffee maker out there, it is quick and easy to use. In order to get that perfect cup of java here are few tips.

1. Buy the right filters. There are many types of filters and often it will say right in the owner’s manual of your coffee maker which filter and the corresponding number to purchase. You can get away with other filters but the quality of the coffee will not be as good as it could be with the right filter.

2. Coffee to Water Ratio: This depends a great deal on how strong you enjoy your coffee. For light coffee drinkers keeping the water to coffee ratio even is best. For those that like their coffee on the stronger side adding an extra spoon or two of coffee is the solution.

3. The right spoon: Most coffees (Folgers is a good one) comes with a scooping spoon. You can also buy these for very cheap at most retail stores. They will help with measuring the correct amount of coffee. Most drip makers are marked on the carafe with how many cups you can make. One spoon to one cup is average, six cups then six spoonfuls. If you do not have the fancy coffee spoon then the average one leveled tablespoon per cup is best.

4. Flavored Coffees: If you are looking for that Irish Cream or vanilla flavored coffee stop the hunt now. Flavored coffees you find in the grocery stores are usually the below average coffee over flavored to hide the chemical fumes that have seeped in during transport. Since the coffee used in the flavored coffees are not a high grade they are transported poorly. If you really want a good flavored cup of coffee you can buy flavor oils and flavor your own individual cup after the coffee is poured.

Another alternative to flavoring coffee is spice it up! Use a combo of a pinch of cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg, and a pinch of all spice throw that right into the coffee grinds before you place it in the filter. Then let the coffee brew with all those spices and you will be delighted at the taste. Also just cinnamon is nice too.

5. Instant: When making instant remember one teaspoon of coffee per cup of water.

6. Sugar and cream please: sugar and cream are what adds the calories in a cup of coffee for alternatives consider honey and skim milk.

Tip: When brewing coffee add a pinch of salt to the coffee and mix before adding the grinds to the filter this will greatly decrease the bitter taste of the coffee.

Coffee can be a soothing an exhilarating addition to life but only when made correctly, everyone knows the horrible taste of a bitter badly made cup of coffee is not the best way to start the day. These tips will serve you well on your next coffee making endeavor.

Tips on How to Identify, Store, Freeze and Take Care of Your Gourmet Coffee

There is a common misconception that if you buy your coffee whole bean that it will be Gourmet, but the fact is, whole bean is not necessarily better if it is not fresh. While it does last quite a bit longer it does not last forever. Whether you order ground coffee fresh or even whole bean fresh roasted you will be absolutely amazed at the difference of taste and smell of it. It’s definitely a different experience then your local Starbucks or Barista and if you never have tried coffee fresh roasted, then you definitely are missing out.

Fresh VS Store bought

Lately there has been many companies marketing this idea of Gourmet. I even saw that Folgers has marketed “Gourmet” now. This is fine, but if you want a real true experience in coffee you must have fresh roasted coffee there is nothing like it and if you are looking for that special cup of Joe, well its not in the stores, it’s definitely online, and don’t be fooled if they vacuum seal it or don’t roast it fresh then they are not worth the money.

So what is better Ground or whole bean? Well to me it really doesn’t matter as long as it is fresh, a lot of times it’s inconvenient to grind your own beans and it does taste that much better. So it’s really a matter of convenience, if you order fresh roasted coffee that is ground, then you don’t have to grind it yourself, or if you order fresh roasted whole bean you can store it for a little longer, but again it’s really a matter of ordering it fresh.

My advice is to order less at a time maybe 5 lbs or so and that way you will know that you will be getting the best cup possible.

How to freeze coffee properly

The first thing is you must have fresh coffee, whether it is ground or whole bean coffee as long as it is no more than a couple of days since it has been roasted, the sooner the better though.

Before we begin the idea is to freeze the coffee not keep it cool. It’s just like soda you can freeze it, but when kept in a refrigerator it becomes flat, this is the same with coffee you can freeze it, but for some reason it goes stale quicker in the fridge…

The preparation

First take you coffee out of the bag and place it in preferably in a mason jar type container or you can just keep it in the same bag, but it is better to be in mason jar, then make sure that your freezer is cold enough freezers with defrosters sometimes are not cold enough. You can set your coffee in a deep freezer where it will freeze as quickly as possible.

The benefits

Coffee is frozen quickly and in the right conditions can be fresh for even up to 2 months, people will not even notice the difference the coffee will taste just like it has just been roasted…

When pulling the container out, take as much as you need and then place the rest back into the freezer…

Storing without freezing…

You can store coffee properly and it will keep its peak freshness up to 2 weeks. It’s easy take your coffee place it in a mason jar that is lined with a paper towel and place in a cool dark place, not the refrigerator.

Never vacuum seal

One thing to try to avoid is vacuum sealing and plastic ziplock bags
and you should be OK..

Why are some flavored Coffee better than others?

Most flavored coffee beans have flavoring oils sprayed and mixed with the beans after roasting. These coffee flavor oils are many times a combination of natural and synthetic flavor chemicals. The difference between good flavored coffee is not about the process because almost every company uses this same process, the difference is in the coffee beans and packaging process. Most companies use Arabica Coffee for their coffee flavorings, the problem with this is that Arabica Coffee while being great for different roasts and blends, the potency and strength of the coffee is not suitable for flavoring.

That is why most flavored coffee smells so good, but tastes horrible, we only use 100% Columbian Coffee Beans ensuring that the coffee keeps that flavor and coffee taste in the bean ensuring that your flavored tastes just like it smells. Another reason why most store bought flavored coffee lacks is the packaging process. Most flavored coffee is vacuum sealed, while this may keep the coffee fresh it strips it of it’s flavor that is why we only roast our flavored coffee to order so that we don’t have to vacuum seal your coffee. It’s always fresh and full of flavor.

Not only that if a company does not advertise that it’s flavored coffee is sugar free never buy it, because many companies use sugar to supplement their flavor, which is a dirty trick in my opinion.

If you want to know more about the process of flavoring I can explain it completely let me know, but I think you get the picture.

So I hope this helps and allows you to find that great cup of coffee…

Supply your employees with high quality gourmet coffee blends, Folgers coffee, and Maxwell House coffee to boost their mood as well as their productivity. Are you the discerning office manager that watches as employees listlessly move around the office drinking low quality coffee? Are you are worried, concerned, and have a strong desire to keep everyone happy and productive? Have you tried bringing in special treats, throwing office happy hours, EVERYTHING? Well these days it seems that everyone has a love affair with rich, bold and delicious gourmet coffee and other quality brands like Folgers coffee, Maxwell House coffee and Green Mountain coffee. Wouldn’t bringing a variety of these blends into the office help improve workplace productivity?

It used to be that a select group of people would consider themselves coffee connoisseurs. Now with every fast food place and coffee shop nationwide pushing consumers to believe that their product is the best, everyone has seemingly developed an intense opinion surrounding their choice survival beverage. People are as devoted to their gourmet coffee, Starbucks coffee, Folgers coffee, Maxwell House coffee or Caribou coffee as super fans are to a sports team.

As an office manager, a morale-conscious office manager at that, you are constantly trying to ensure that your employees are satisfied with the work environment. If the employees are rushing all over town to buy their gourmet coffee at local shops each morning or spending extra time at home to brew their own Folgers coffee, Maxwell House coffee and Green Mountain coffee, how much more at ease would they be knowing that when they walked into the office beverages would already be brewing?

Market researchers, Harris Interactive, recently presented the findings of a study analyzing beverage consumption in workplaces at the National Automatic Merchandising Association Coffee Service Education Summit. The results demonstrated that employees who are provided coffee in the workplace feel that they are appreciated and that their employer cares about them. The study also demonstrated that employees use coffee to manage their mental state and boost their energy level or their mood at the office. They even use a cup as an excuse to take a break from today’s heavy workload. Most employers know that the ability of an employee to improve their mood at work and their satisfaction level with the work environment is directly related to an increase in productivity.

Harris Interactive found that 48 percent of heavy coffee drinkers, 45 percent of daily drinkers and 99 percent of occasional drinkers brought their coffee in to the office because those beverages are “superior” to those available to them at the office. About 25 percent stated that they brought it into work because it wasn’t “readily available in the office.” The study also revealed that 25 percent of coffee drinkers, especially those that drink it often, consider the availability of the beverage in the workplace to be “extremely important”.

This goes back to the importance of gourmet coffee and high quality Folgers coffee, Maxwell House coffee or Starbucks coffee in the workplace. As an office manager you should not only be providing employees with more than one type of coffee choice, but a higher quality beverage as well. They are asking for it! An astounding 65 percent of survey participants indicated that they have no access to specialty coffee at work. The Harris Interactive research also indicates that coffee drinkers would prefer more variety in the blends available in the office.

Gourmet coffee blends and other national brands ordered in pre-measured packages through online suppliers can help you offer your employees high quality coffee at a low price. You can stock your break room with many varieties like Folgers coffee, Green Mountain coffee, Caribou coffee, Maxwell House coffee and Starbucks coffee at a similar cost to the current coffee you may provide.

Help your employees out! Start buying gourmet coffee and other quality national brands to help them manage their mood and, in turn, increase their productivity. It is also important to note that gourmet coffee blends are stronger than their more generic counterparts, and increased caffeine can also mean increased productivity.
