Gourmet Coffee Drinks

Gourmet coffee is good, gourmet coffee drinks are fabulous. Using your own gourmet flavored coffee or espresso as a base you can make those tasty treats at home and save yourself a lot of money while impressing your friends at the same time. Gourmet coffee drinks can vary from lattes and cappuccinos to exotic ice cream drinks. There are also alcohol drinks that feature coffee which can be very relaxing after a stressful day at the office.

Gourmet Coffee Recipes

Chocolate Cappuccino: For the chocoholic who loves their coffee this satisfies both desires.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Vanilla syrup
  • 4-6 oz. Chocolate Milk or Chocolate Soy Milk if lactose intolerant
  • 4 oz. Espresso or Very Strong Coffee – can use gourmet chocolate flavored coffee if desired
  • Chocolate Shavings
  • Whipped Cream

Directions

  1. First pour the vanilla syrup into a cappuccino mug.
  2. Now add your fresh brewed espresso or coffee to the vanilla syrup and blend the two ingredients together.
  3. Next, steam your chocolate milk to 160 degrees F. (Use a candy thermometer to test the milk).
  4. Add to the coffee mixture.
  5. Top with a dollop of whip cream and chocolate shavings.

Variation: For a relaxing after dinner drink, add a 2 oz. Shot of Godiva Chocolate Liqueur or other chocolate liqueur.

Iced Latte with Flavor Variations: The traditional latte served up cold and creamy for those hot sultry days when you need a boost.

Ingredients

  • 2-4 oz. Espresso or Strong Coffee
  • 4-6 oz. Milk
  • Ice Cubes
  • Flavorings as desired (see variations)

Directions

  1. Pour the espresso and milk into a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add ice cubes and shake until well chilled. For variations use one of the following flavors. Note: For frozen latte, use a blender instead of cocktail shaker.

Variations: Add any one of the following flavorings to the blender or cocktail shaker. *Coffee syrups available in coffee section of grocer or at coffee shops.

2 oz Vanilla Syrup

2 oz. Chocolate Syrup

2 oz. Hazelnut Syrup

Iced Mint Mocha: This is a wonderful coffee drink for those hot summer days. For a spirited version you can add a liqueur such as Bailey’s Irish Cream.

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • 1 oz. of mint chocolate coffee syrup
  • 2 scoops of mint choc chip ice cream
  • 2-4 oz. espresso shots or strong coffee
  • Cold milk
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings/sprinkles

Directions

  1. Place ice in blender, add mint chocolate chip ice cream and mint chocolate syrup.
  2. Pour in milk based on how thick you want the drink to be.
  3. Blend to desired consistency.
  4. Top with whip cream, chocolate shavings or sprinkles.

Fall Cappuccino: This coffee drink with a touch of cinnamon and cloves invokes those autumn nights when there is just a hint of chill in the air.

Ingredients

  • 4-6 Whole cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 4-6 Whole Green Cardoman
  • 3 tsp. Brown Sugar
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate Shavings and Ground Cinnamon
  • 2-4 oz. Espresso
  • 4-6 oz. Steamed Milk

Directions

  1. Add 2 cups water to small saucepan.
  2. Add all spices to the water and heat to boiling.
  3. Allow to boil for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, steam 4-6 oz. of milk to 160 degrees F.
  5. Pour the espresso into a cappuccino mug, add the spice mixture and stir well. Top with the steamed milk. Decorate with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and sprinkled cinnamon.

Variations: For more of a coffee drink, you can replace the espresso and steamed milk with 6-8 oz. of strong coffee.

For an adult beverage, add 2 oz. of your favorite brandy

Gourmet coffee drinks can be made without just about any flavorings you can imagine. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination. So if they are exposed to dandelion flavoring, the standard coffee bean taste will soon be blended with the coconut to produce a rich and sweetly unique coffee flavor.

How to make your own dandelion coffee

It should be noted that dandelion root is a source of vitamins and minerals, but sometimes the way coffee is processed and flavored can do more harm than good. Most flavored coffees use flavors that are identical to the natural flavor, but not natural at all. You can actually make your own dandelion coffee or, if you prefer, find an organically grown and flavored coffee online. There are so many stores online that sell organic and artisan coffee and flavors.

To make your own dandelion root coffee, you’ll need to grow some dandelion root. Once you’ve done that and harvested the root, then wash it well. You’ll need to chop into chunks and then grind the dandelion roots. You can do this by soaking the roots in water and then grinding them in your food processor. Then you have to roast the roots. This process takes about 2 hours at 250 degrees.

You can actually brew the dandelion root as is to make a cup of dandelion root coffee or you can add the grind to freshly roasted coffee beans and seal them in a container so that they may absorb the flavor. Then you will have your own dandelion coffee without all the additives.

How I Discovered the Wonderful World of Gourmet Coffee Beans

There was a time when I thought all coffee was basically the same. Sure, you could add milk to it and get what people today call cafe latte, or make it strong and then it was espresso, or just use instant. In fact, instant was what I drank for many years. To me, that was coffee. I did keep some ground coffee for an old percolator I had, just in case guests might want it. Looking back, I truly did not know what I was missing. It wasn’t until a dear friend of mine rejected my stale, generic coffee. I thought he was a bit of a snob, but it made me think. I looked into coffee and it became an exploration and journey that opened up a whole new world for me, the world of delicious, delightful coffee. I learned to differentiate between types and blends and processing of coffee, of roasting and preparation, and of gourmet flavored coffee beans that can add so much to the enjoyment of this most wondrous of beverages.

Once I realized that instant coffee really wasn’t the real thing, no matter what the TV commercials said, I experimented with different ways of brewing coffee. I tried different types of automatic and semi-automatic coffeemakers. I fell in love with the simple elegance of the French press with its simple plunger system but also experimented with a variety of other systems. I initially bought coffee that was already ground, for no other reason than that I had unpleasant childhood memories of mom making me grind coffee beans in an old hand-powered mill. I hated it. However, I found that I was quite particular in the way I liked to have my coffee ground. It had to be just right, not too coarse and not too fine.

I also began to appreciate the many different types of gourmet coffee beans from all over the world. A lot of people still think that coffee is coffee, and it’s either black or with milk or cream, I think coffee is really more like wine-no two types and roasts are the same. After you’ve sampled imported coffee beans from various countries and regions, you begin to appreciate the subtle and not so subtle differences. Likewise, there’s a huge difference between light roasts and dark roasts. Did you know, for example, that lighter roasts actually have more caffeine, and that the way coffee is stored also makes a difference?

These days, coffee has become a hobby and passion for me. I love exploring various flavors. Yes, you can get toasted cinnamon pecan flavored coffee beans, or white chocolate, or raspberry almond, or pralines and cream. Or all sorts of Italian espresso. Or special private blends from specialty coffee places on the web. The Kona blend gourmet beans I get from my favorite place are out of this world. And when I feel adventurous I may sample coffees from Jamaica, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia or Costa Rica. Some of the Central and South American coffee growing countries offer delicious shade grown and organic coffee beans, and I also keep some decaffeinated blends for when I feel like having a cup at night before I go to bed.

Amazingly, gourmet flavored coffee beans aren’t even that expensive. The better supermarkets in my area actually often charge more per pound than the online gourmet discount coffee bean places, without having nearly the same selection and quality.

Jamaican coffee is one of the most expensive, classy and sought-after coffees in the entire world. It comes from the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. Jamaica blue mountain coffee is sheltered internationally as an officially recognized trademark implying that only coffee qualified by the ‘Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica’ can be branded as such. It comes from an established cultivating region in the Blue Mountain region of Jamaica, and its nurturing is supervised by the ‘Coffee Industry Board.’

To be called Jamaican coffee, the beans are required to grow above 2000 feet and normally, the Jamaican coffee plantations grow above 5000 feet all over the region. I love all types of coffee, but one of my favorite types is gourmet flavored coffee. To tell you the truth, I like everything about coffee, from coffee candy to coffee mugs to all kinds of coffee gifts. Most of all though, I love gourmet coffee. Let me tell you why.

How It is Made

Obviously, coffee beans can’t be grown with all these different flavors. Gourmet flavored coffee begins with a base like Colombia Supremo, to which pure flavors are added. There are no sugars or chemical additives in this flavored coffee. The end result of this process is a wonderfully delicious coffee, so delicious that flavored coffee can become addictive. With so many flavors to choose from, you will never become bored when drinking coffee of gourmet favor.

The Best Way to Brew

Like all types of coffee, coffee of gourmet favor will taste better when it’s brewed correctly. Start by keeping all your coffee brewing equipment as clean as possible.
