Choosing the Right Kind of Coffee Grinder

It’s amazing really how many people love to drink coffee, yet settle for the inferior taste of instant or pre-bought grounds.  While coffee that has already been milled is certainly a step in the right direction, it is a far cry from actually grinding your own.

Only by grinding coffee beans yourself can you ensure a more flavorsome, richer tasting cup of coffee every time.  So, if you love drinking coffee and you want to improve the taste then you need to invest in a dedicated coffee grinder.

The reason is perfectly simpe.  Coffee you buy, either instant of pre-grounded is likely to of already been compromised.  You see, coffee doesn’t react very well to air exposure.  In fact the longer the grounds have been exposed to air the greater the chance that they will have oxidized.  This can result in a very bitter tasting experience and is less than ideal.

The answer is to swap grounded coffee with actual coffee beans and grind them yourself.  The outer-shell of the bean is completely sealed, resulting in perfectly fresh coffee grounds every time you mill your own.

Unfortunately there are a few different types of coffee grinders that we need to analyse before you pay a visit to the local store.  That said, any coffee grinder will produce a much better tasting cup of coffee than any pre-purchased ground coffee.

Those of you looking for a comparison, here’s what you need to know:

Crusher Style Coffee Grinder:

Works by attempting to compress the coffee beans into grounds.  Although this method does work, it’s not ideal as the grounds tend to be irregular sized and therefore not suitable for making Turkish style coffee that is extremely fine.

Blade Style Coffee Grinder:

Rotates very fast, and much like a juicer slices the coffee beans repeatedly to achieve grounds.  Again, this method isn’t ideal as although the grounds are more consistent than that produced by a crusher grinder they are still not completely uniform.  Also, these types of grinders can be very noisy.

Burr Style Coffee Grinder:

If you’re serious about making decent coffee, then a burr grinder should be the choice you make.  Available in two forms the flat base burr and the conical burr offer any coffee lover the ultimate way in preparing amazing tasting coffee.  They work by grinding the coffee beans between two steel burrs that can be manually adjusted to the desired height to suit almost any coffee recipe you care to make.

The main difference between the two apart from the shape of the burrs is that the conical is able to rotate at far slower speeds.  This is important, not only because the grinder with not be as noisy, but because the potential for heat-build-up is dramatically reduced.  The faster a grinder rotates the more friction is produced; this in turn means more heat is omitted that can be passed directly to the coffee grounds potentially ruining the brew.

Therefore, if you can afford the modest investment of a conical grinder, your coffee will taste better for many years to come.

There is no doubt that conical burr grinders offer any real coffee lover the chance to experience better tasting coffee. For more information, including a must read review of the highly touted Kitchenaid coffee grinder make sure you visit us today.

The Real Story Behind Gourmet Coffee

Whether your a proclaimed coffee lover or a regular of Starbucks, you won’t be capable of understanding the art of appreciating genuine gourmet coffee unless you grasp the history and knowledge associated with it. Oh, of course, you don’t have to an connoisseur to love and appreciate gourmet coffee, but understanding a little bit more than what supermarket sells the instant coffee would help you admire the flavour, aroma and pure bliss that the fans gourmet coffee know that it is truly capable of.

Gourmet coffee is the complete opposite to fine wine. With wine, the longer it sits, the better it tastes, as its quality and price increases. But with gourmet coffee, freshness is an absolute must. If feasible, get coffee beans that have been roasted no more than 1 week beforehand. And if you’re going to discover its true potential, it’s essential that you only buy 100% Arabica beans.

It’s nearly impossible to find fresh roasted coffee on the shelves of your local supermarket. There is a really good chance, that the coffee that you’re drinking today has been roasted 2 or more months ago. You can try and change this problem by purchasing whole roasted coffee beans in batches from reputable on-line companies and grind them at home only when you need it. This is simpler that you think, as gourmet coffee companies have become more accessible with the onset of the Internet . Combine that with affordable at-home technology, it has become even easier to enjoy real gourmet coffee in the comfort of your own home whenever you feel fit.

In order to get the most out of your purchase, you want to do everything that you can to ensure the freshness of the coffee. After purchasing gourmet coffee beans, it’s almost a sin to leave it sitting out on the counter at room temperature. The first step is to make sure that you store any unused beans in an airtight container. If you are a regular coffee drinker, you can safely store the container in the refrigerator. But if you enjoy it only on special occasions or when you have guests, it is important to store your unused coffee beans in the freezer. This helps to keep it as fresh as possible. It won’t be exactly like freshly roasted coffee, but it will still be superior to the stale stuff that you buy off the supermarket shelves.

As with other products like wine, the area where the grapes are grown makes a really big difference. This is no different with gourmet coffee. There are two very important facts to consider. First, the country the gourmet coffee beans are grown can make a difference in taste and quality. But just as important is the company that roasts and sell the gourmet coffee beans. Remember to buy only from companies that have proven themselves. This is not hard to find out. Coffee tastings and reviews are a big part of the industry, and that information is readily available.

The most important thing about gourmet coffee is that you must take the time to really appreciate it. If you plan on slamming a cup of coffee as you run off to work in the morning, then stick the instant stuff. It’s almost an insult to all the hard work and art that goes into making really good gourmet coffee.

You can be a coffee lover without knowing much about coffee beans, but learning a little bit about the different types of coffee can help you get the perfect cup every time. There are many types of gourmet coffee beans. The way they have been grown in processed has a huge effect on their taste. Here’s a little bit of information for getting the best from your gourmet coffee beans.

Coffee is a common agricultural product of many tropical countries. There are two main species of coffee plant – Arabica and Robusta. Gourmet coffee beans are mostly Arabica because of their superior flavor and smoothness. Many blends, however, include Robusta coffee beans to give an edge to the coffee.

After the coffee is picked, it must be roasted. Roasting makes the green coffee beans expand in size and changes their color to a light to dark brown. Lighter roasts reveal more of the flavor of gourmet coffee beans, while darker roasts take on the flavor of the roasting process itself. After roasting the coffee should be kept in vacuum packed containers to minimize flavor loss.

Gourmet coffee beans must be ground to the correct fineness to bring out the most taste. Generally speaking, a fine grind will result in a full-bodied cup of coffee, but coarse grinds are used when making coffee with coarse filters like the French cafetiere.

Once the coffee has been ground, there are many ways to brew a cup of coffee. No matter whether you prefer espresso, drip, perked, or pressed, you need to start with high-quality gourmet coffee beans to get a good cup of coffee.

You can buy gourmet coffee beans in many types of blends. Most blends are a mixture of dark and light roast coffee beans and can be ground to suit the type of coffee maker you use. Freshness is important when making good-quality coffee. Fresh ground coffee beans will give you the best tasting cup of coffee.
