Do you know what it means by green coffee? Well actually there is no such term as a cup of “green” coffee because coffee is black in colour! However, maybe you are referring to coffee beans which are green, that is untouched after being harvested! No I do not mean coffee beans which are green in colour, or some kind of farming method related or not related to organic farming which is green, i.e. environmentally friendly. This is not what I am talking about. When people talk about green and great coffee beans, they are talking about fresh and coffee original beans that have not been processed roasted or touched!

The good thing about making your own type of coffee is that you can choose the quality of the coffee beans that you like and roast it the way you want it to be. You can even mix your coffee varieties or different coffee flavours. You can choose to get the type of coffee roaster you want and how you want to roast your green coffee beans is up to you. Of course you cannot just do it anyhow and your way if not the coffee may taste bad. But roasting your own green and nice coffee beans can give you lots of freedom in the way you want your coffee. Besides, you can get any information or any type or make of green coffee beans online these days, not to mention a myriad of green coffee roasters that you can choose from too!

If you are thinking that roasting coffee is difficult think again. It is actually quite simple to roast your own coffee but with everything else you would need lots of practice and experience. Then there are also several methods and green coffee roasters that you can use to roast your beans. Some methods require attention to detail and more of time but are less expensive; others require a investment in more expensive equipment but will save you time. In the end it is all up to individual preference. Some of the methods commonly used include using the stovetop or gas or convection oven to roast your green nice coffee beans which is relatively fuss free when you have got a good quality gas oven or a high temperature convection oven or a stove at home but the problem is uneven roasting. Then there are some people who use popcorn poppers too to roast their beans.

No matter the method, I still think that you should get proper green coffee roasters because the above methods may result in a bad roast and in the end you are just wasting your green coffee beans or even worse your organic green coffee beans which can be more expensive. Invest in a good green coffee roaster today.

While particular coffee roasts and grinds determine a lot of the flavor and aroma of the coffee in the cup, the method of brewing is also significant. While the perfect cup of coffee can depend on personal preference, including strength and flavor, there are 3 essential elements that are necessary for preparing a good cup of coffee, fresh filtered water, a good coffee maker and fresh quality coffee beans, ground to desired level.

There are several methods for brewing coffee, and they are significant as each yields a particular flavor and strength of the brew in the cup. Also, deciding on the brewing method and the best coffee makers for you depends on personal preference, including how much time one wants to invest in preparing coffee and the convenience factor.

Automatic Filter Drip

The automatic drip is probably the most common method of brewing coffee, remember Mr. Coffee? This type of coffee pot is also the most common in the United States and is least common in Europe. The automatic drip is also the easiest coffee brewing method, and many drip coffee makers can be set to auto and they will turn on and brew coffee on a timer, so you can wake up to an all ready made pot.

Automatic drip works by heating water in a chamber to almost boiling and slowly pouring the water over ground coffee beans. The two common ways are via an electronic drip machine where the water is sprayed over the coffee grinds, or manually poured over grounds in a cone-shaped filter.

French Press

A French press, also known as a press pot, coffee press or coffee plunger and is a very simple coffee brewing device.

A French press has a narrow cylindrical jug usually made of glass with a lid and a plastic or metal plunger, which fits tightly in the cylinder and has a fine wire or nylon mesh acting as a filter. Coffee is brewed by placing the coffee and water together, leaving to brew for a few minutes, then depressing the plunger to trap the coffee grinds at the bottom of the jug. The French press requires a coarse grind of coffee in order to get the best results.

Espresso

Caffe espresso or espresso is a concentrated coffee beverage brewed by forcing steam or hot water under pressure through very finely ground coffee. What defines espresso is a thicker consistency and a much stronger flavor than drip coffee because of the high-pressure coffee brewing process. All of the flavors and chemicals in a typical cup of coffee are concentrated with espresso, because it is so concentrated, espresso often becomes the base for other drinks, such as lattes, mochas, cappuccinos and macchiatos.

All though many do drink espresso straight up, especially in Europe, it is coffee on turbo and not intended for the first time drinker or the caffeine squeamish. In order to make espresso you need an espresso machine, which comes in a variety of types, from very elaborate ones to plain little pots that brew espresso on the stove top.

Making the perfect cup of coffee usually depends on the unique coffee preference and taste of the ones who will be drinking it. People have individual preferences of brewing method and taste.

Though the taste is largely preferential, there are general guidelines in brewing coffee. First and foremost, it is important to buy the best “fresh roasted” 100% Arabica high quality coffee. It is the most popular coffee ground beans to give the perfect roast. Or for any kind of beans you prefer, always choose the top quality ones.

Coffee beans easily lose its flavor when exposed to air. This is why it is packaged in vacuum-sealed containers. Only ground a small amount of beans you intend to brew for the day. Keep the rest of the ground beans well-stored.

If you have options in a coffee maker, choose a burr grinder. It is the most accurate and consistent in producing ground beans. Blade grinders can also do the job but produces a less consistent output. It sometimes still requires shaking the grinder.

You can also buy those coarse-medium ground coffees for a Cafetiere or French Press. A good kind is the Costa Rica Tarrazu. For a Drio Coffee Maker or Cone Filter, you can buy those medium-fine ground coffees, like Yirgacheffe or Breakfast Blend. For Espresso Machines, you can buy those finely ground coffees, like Brazil Mimoso.

A bitter coffee indicates that the beans were grounded too finely, or were over-extracted. Flat, weak coffees are grounded too coarsely or under-extracted. Adjust the grind by keeping the same dosage of coffee and measuring the coffee by volume instead of by weight.

Next, also take note of the water content. The water to coffee ratio is crucial in making a perfect cup of coffee. Basically, about .35 oz or 2 tablespoons of ground coffee is good for each 177 ml or 6 fl. oz. of water. It is also advisable to dilute coffee when it tastes very strong. It is better than using less coffee. For a weaker type of coffee, you can just add some hot water to it.

Make sure that you only utilize crystal fresh, tap or cold spring water. It is said that in a cup of coffee, about 98% is composed of water. This will definitely affect flavor. If using tap water, allow it to run for a few seconds before you fill your cup. You can use bottled or filtered water if you suspect that there is a strong taste or odor in your tap water. Never use softened or distilled water. The estimated perfect water temperature for brewing is between 195oF to 205oF. If you brew using boiling water, you will lose some of the delicate flavors.

It is advisable to drink coffee right after brewing. Do not reheat or reuse coffee grounds. A coffee does not taste the same when reheated. Do not take for granted cleaning immediately your cups and spoons after finishing the drink. There is an oily film that coffee leaves that makes the cups and spoons rancid if left unwashed for a few days.

And of course, coffee is best served in a mug or cup to keep the heat for a longer time. If you are going to bring it in the office or school, place it in the thermos as this keeps the coffee freshly hot for a long time also. If it is cold coffee, it is better to place them in tall clear glasses.
