Coffee has a fairly secure history when in comes to details, although there are a few controversies as to actually who was the very first to grow it. One fact that is not disputed, however, is that Arabian coffee is the finest in the world.

It is accepted that Arabia was most definitely the first country to commercialize coffee growing – so hence its name coffee Arabica. This is beneficial because it allows for a longer time for the characteristics it possesses to materialize and permeate.

Every coffee has its variations and coffee Arabica basically has three major varieties being Typica, Caturra and Bourbon has well. Although they all have the same origin, they each have subtle differences that make for different variances in the final cup. Most avid coffee lovers that really know their coffee would be able to identify these differences, but many others probably would not. There are small differences in the body and balance for example.

As we, mentioned Arabica coffee can be somewhat fragile to grow, but by having these sub types developed, it has also hardened them up somewhat without jeopardizing the quality and the taste.

What it comes down to coffee Arabica is still great in its worst form but when it is prepared at its best its difficult to put into words just how superior it really is. One of the problems that can happen is if you have had the joy of getting a superior cup of coffee Arabica then go back to what you usually consume you are just not going to be happy with the brew that you have always enjoyed in the past.

Surprisingly, there are only two species of coffee: Arabic and Robust. All the best gourmet coffees are always created from the Arabic species: Arabic is considered the superior coffee species. Arabic coffee requires a greater elevation than does Robust. In addition, all but a quarter of the coffee grown around the world is Arabic. Robust coffee is grown in a moisture-rich environment such as those offered in tropical areas. As is obvious, Arabic is a drying coffee than is the Robust.

The best gourmet coffee is indeed a matter of opinion. However, many factors are decided long before the consumer is served that final cup of rich java. Many gourmet coffees have specialty flavorings added directly to the coffee bean immediately following the roasting process. When the coffee bean is warm, the infusion of additives is much easier. There are a large number of options when considering what to do with that coffee bean. However, only the best, high quality coffee beans are used in the creation of gourmet coffee.

Coffee manufacturers, coffee shops, and coffee retailers all want to make you, the consumer, happy. They want to see you come back for more. By creating good gourmet coffee, a few specially selected coffees gain the title of the best gourmet coffee in the world. Of course, there is more than one. You may ask yourself: how can this be? Well, what is the best gourmet coffee for one person may not be for the next person. Everyone’s taste is uniquely there own. When a gourmet coffee is simply the best, they have discovered the secret of benefiting a great number of people. Do not be surprised by the options available when selecting your coffee. Whenever I have a friend traveling to Hawaii I insist they bring me back a bag of the famous Kona Peaberry Coffee. Kona coffee is known for its smooth and mellow yet full-bodied flavor, a very deep and rich bean producing a very aromatic cup of coffee. Kona’s elevated location is perfect for growing the best beans. Its climate of sunny mornings, cloudy or rainy afternoons combine to make a superior coffee bean.

Kona coffee can only be called that if it is grown within the district of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is grown in a small area only one mile wide by 30 miles long. Coffee grown in any other area of the islands can only be called “Hawaiian.” Even coffee grown in Kona is called “Hawaiian” if it falls below the “Prime” grade.

Kona Peaberry coffee is classified as “Extra Fancy” and costs more not only because you are getting a bigger and denser bean, but because you are also getting a rarer bean and only accounts for approximately 5% of the coffee bean crop. Peaberry is a “freak of nature” so to speak, and occurs when the coffee cherry yields only one bean instead of two. The Peaberry bean is shaped like a football; it is not flat on one side and round on the other, like a regular coffee bean. It also has a lower acid content than regular beans. Some believe that the cylindrical shape causes this bean to roast differently than a regular bean giving it a much different taste.

It has been said that coffee prepared in a French Press coffee pot is the best way to taste the actual flavor of the coffee bean. If you have Kona Peaberry coffee beans what better way to thoroughly enjoy their bold yet smooth flavor. When coffee is prepared in a French Press coffee pot it produces a concentrated yet very smooth and rich tasting coffee. The Kona coffee council defines “Estate” as “the product of one farm, unmixed with crops from other farms and processed through to roast under the control of that farm.” Processing companies buy coffee in cherry form (right off the tree) from many farms in Hawaii. They combine these all the way through to roasting and market it under their own label.
