For the past so many centuries, coffee has delighted both the young and old alike. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. had eulogized coffee in 1891 by saying that “The morning cup of coffee has an exhilaration about it which the cheering influence of the afternoon or evening cup of tea cannot be expected to reproduce.” This is so true of most people. One cannot really start a day without the heavenly smell of this freshly brewed beverage.

Some of the connoisseurs of coffee opine that coffee has two virtues; one it’s wet and the other that it’s warm. But both give a delightful feeling and totally relax and refresh the drinker. Jesssi Lane Adams once said that “Coffee smells like freshly ground heaven. ” What else can be so heavenly other than a cup of hot coffee? And that too which you get in bed early in the morning!!

But then it is not just the older generation which is a fan of this lovely beverage. Even the children enjoy this drink very much. How can anybody miss out the joyous expression on a child’s face when he/she has had a glass full of cold coffee after a tiring play day? The expression says it all about this brew.

The children are always hyper-active and loose track of time while they are busy playing. This can easily cause them to become dehydrated. Dehydration can make them ill. In the summer season, especially, there should be a greater intake of liquids. This can be done by drinking lots of water and also some amount of milk. But to get the children to drink milk without throwing a tantrum is always a feat achieved. So the next best option is to add something to the milk and water and offer it to them.

Here enters the magical COFFEE!! Which child can resist a cup of the drink and if it is served in their favorite cartoon styled cup?

The coffee has changed forms according to the regions and the climatic conditions. In the hot and humid climate, people prefer to have a cup of iced coffee or a cold coffee. Hot coffee is also used but with the advent of the cold coffee, there have been many variations in this drink. Children love it when there is a dollop of ice-cream put in the coffee. There are many people who love to have coffee mixed with some amount of alcohol content.

There are many recipes which have been developed over the years which can be served with various kinds of meals. Some of the coffees like the Brazilian coffee and the Jamaican coffee is always a hot favorite (no pun intended).

Some of the recipes are really simple and do not require too many ingredients too. They can easily be made by children too. There are others, like the gourmet coffee which needs special care. These types of beverages are a complex mix of various ingredients like alcohol, some herbs and other spices. They can be created by experts only and have a distinct flavor and taste.

Some of the people prefer to have their coffee very strong and bitter while others like it mild. But whatever the choice, there is no escaping from this enticing drink called the Coffee and one cup a day is never enough for the coffee lovers. As some of the people who appreciate this brew say “Caffeine isn’t a drug, it’s a vitamin!!”

Therefore anyone who tries to criticize this wonderful drink, one can easily refute him be saying that “Life Certainly Begins After Coffee. “

Solar Powered Coffee Maker

Early morning is one such paradise which always makes you feel good. If something is giving you some refreshment, then it will add zest to that paradise. Coffee is one such item which surely makes you feel like you’re in heaven. Filter coffee was the first method used for the preparation of coffee in which coffee beans were crushed and put into filter. Hot water was poured into the filter and the beverage obtained from it was used to produce coffee.

Later, coffee powder was grained and obtained in coffee particles which are small particles of coffee like sugar and they were mixed with milk. Thus, the generation advancement helped to update the production process in a different manner. Later, readymade coffee machines were introduced and coffee was prepared at ease. These machines automatically produce essence of coffee with the help of some filters and you can even get your desired amount of coffee from them. Normally you can prepare 12 cups of coffee in a single process.

Now, the latest advancement in coffee making is the solar powered coffee machine. This machine basically works on the principle that sunlight is the ultimate source of energy and it is used to heat water. The boiling process is used to produce the desired cup of coffee. This coffee maker is not only helpful in preparing coffee but also helps in preparing tea either.

This machine is provided with solar panels which are powered by sunlight. These solar panels are provided with built-in lithium battery. The water can be stored in this panel and it is effectively heated with the help of solar energy available. Normally, it is estimated and calibrated that 0.03-0.04 kw/h energy is required for boiling of water and it is obtained from solar energy.

A 10cmX10 cm solar panel can effectively generate 0 .1 Kw/h energy. Thus, if sunlight is imbibed by this solar panel for eight hours a day, it will result in the production of approximately 22 cups of coffee per day. The striking feature is that the energy available is solely obtained from sunlight and it’s totally inexpensive and eco-friendly.

Since this is portable, it can be moved indoor and outdoor with much ease and it is free from electrical connection. One type of solar coffee maker employs a mechanism in which your desired coffee maker is about to use a rod to heat the water with the help of solar energy. When the temperature in it reaches nearly 80 degrees, a built-in thermostat will automatically switch off the process. During the thermostat initiation, a light will turn on to indicate that the solar coffee maker is working. After some moment of time, the light will turn off which will indicate that that coffee is ready and you can enjoy the aroma of coffee. The rod is pushed up with the help of green top present at the top. This mechanism is very similar to a ball point pen.

The most important aspect of this coffee maker is its eco-friendly nature. It won’t pollute atmosphere since the energy is obtained from sun. But one of the issues associated with it is the model like this have not hit the floor of commercial market yet. All the concepts are still theoretical and conceptual. Certain things are really uncertain regarding the amount of coffee produced and energy required to heat the water. Still, some controversies regarding the fulfilment of the customers are also raised. In order to experience the aroma of coffee with solar power, you have to wait for some more time.

How to Make Iced Coffee From Scratch

Most iced coffees can be bought from your favorite coffee house, but if you know how to make iced coffee, it can be easy as making an ordinary warm brew. Of course, you would have to add ice, cream, and a few toppings, but making this iced concoction is so easy and fun that you wouldn’t mind the extra work needed. Here are a few guidelines on how to make iced coffee right at home.

Choosing your coffee first

1. Depending on whether you are choosing brewed or instant, you would need to prepare the strong coffee first. Strong coffee is important since you will be adding ice in this cold beverage, plus sugar and cream. For a glass of iced coffee, you may need ½ cup of very strong coffee.

2. If you want to brew your choice coffee beans, it will be better to go for a dark-roast blend. Moreover, if you’re planning to make a creamy frapuccino, using espresso is best. For an extra-strong brewed coffee, double the amount of coffee you would put in the usual amount of water. If you’re used to putting one teaspoon per cup, make it two teaspoons per cup. You can brew the coffee using a traditional coffee pot or any coffee maker.

3. Coffee can also be cold brewed, although for this you might need a cold-brewing equipment. However, cold brewing your coffee can be manually done, too. Here are the easy steps:

* Take a pound of coffee, place it in pitcher or carafe, and pour an initial 2 cups of water into the grounds.
* Once the grounds are thoroughly wet, gently pour an additional 8 cups into the carafe.
* Cover the container and place in room temperature for 12 hours.
* Carefully strain the coffee brew after 12 hours, making certain that there are no loose grounds mixed with the liquid.
* Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and let cool before making into an iced beverage.

4. Instant coffee works just as well, but you would want it extra-strong just the same. You can put a mix of 2 tablespoons of instant coffee, 1 teaspoon sugar, milk, and 3 tablespoons warm water in a jar, and shake it until the mixture becomes frothy. You can add as much milk you like but 6 ounces or more will often suffice.

Adding ice to the blend

Once the strong coffee is prepared, you can now fill up a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour the coffee over the prepared ice. Add cream or milk, or additional melted sugar according to the demands of your taste buds.

Picking out the flavors you want Cream is a common ingredient in iced coffee, as well as ordinary milk. Many people also prefer using sweetened condensed milk so as to do away with the powdered sugar. If you are using sugar however, you need to mix it in while the coffee is still warm. This helps dissolve the sugar much easily.

Chocolate, cinnamon, and other flavorings can be added to the iced beverage as well. Caramel, honey, or a shot of Bailey’s also works wonders. You can experiment to your heart’s content, and reward yourself with one unique blend after the other. Once you know how to make iced coffee from your very own kitchen, you’ll realize that doing so is not merely convenient, but a lot of fun as well!

Buying Coffee and Tea Makers Guide

The first problem in looking for coffee tea makers is you probably would not find one that states it can brew both coffee and tea. The fact is, there are no tea brewers, most of the brewers out there are designed for coffee. But, there are a few coffee machines that can do both coffee and tea equally well. The first one that you should know about is the French Press. They are easy to use, brew good quality coffee or tea and are priced reasonably.

The brewing method for tea and coffee is exactly the same. The first thing is to add in the hot water that is slightly below boiling point, placed the coffee grounds or tea leaves into the filter mesh, allow it to seep for a few minutes then press the coffee grounds or tea leaves. After that, simply pour out the beverage and enjoy it. Other than being very user friendly, it is also very easy to maintain, in fact, most of the French Press is dish washer friendly. And lastly, the pricing for these brewers are very reasonable.

If you find this procedure too complicated, how about pressing one button for your beverage? For an even simpler coffee and tea solution, it would have to be the single serve coffee maker. While no coffee maker ratings would highlight this as their strengths, single serve coffee makers are one of the rare coffee machines that are able to brew equally good coffee and tea.

However, not all the brands are able to do that, currently in the market, only 2 brands are able to do it exceptionally well. They are Keurig and Tassimo, both offers consumers a wide array of beverages, coffee and tea being just the two of them. Out of these two brands, I like Tassimo more because of its individual brewing system. On the back of all its coffee pods known as T-disc are a series of code. This code teaches the machines how to brew the beverage by changing the water temperature and water level to suit the type of beverage.

So, a cup of tea would definitely be brewed differently from a cappuccino. This allows you to enjoy the full flavor of the tea and coffee in exactly the conditions that it would be brewed in coffee shops. If you are someone that loves to drink coffee and tea, then this brewer would be my recommendation. There is another machine that is also able to dispense coffee and tea, but most of you would probably not purchase it -table top vending machine. They have been around longer than the single cup coffee brewers and strictly speaking should be considered the first one button machine.

They are very easy to use and easy to maintain but not many people would like the taste of freeze dried coffee and tea. Freeze dried beverages are similar to the instant coffee and tea that you can get from supermarket, so I doubt anyone would be paying money for a machine to dispense instant coffee! There you have it, a guide of the various types of brewers that can brew both coffee and tea and also my personal recommendation on the one which I think is better.

K-Cups Or Coffee Pods? That is the Question!

Try browsing the Internet for single cup coffee makers, and you’ll find dozens of websites, all purporting that they sell the best brewers available. The problem lies in the fact that most sites don’t agree with each other, so you get as many different opinions as there are coffee making machines. One of the debates on these websites is whether it’s better to buy a brewing system that uses k-cups or one that uses coffee pods. Both have their pros and cons, and this article is going to explore what’s good and what’s bad about them.

K-cups are the ultimate in convenience. They are little pre-measured portions of coffee housed in air-tight plastic cups sealed with both plastic and foil in order to preserve freshness. A k-cup coffee maker sends pressurized hot water through the top of the cup into a filter filled with coffee grounds. You can purchase an optional k-cup carousel for convenient counter-top storage. K-cups are made by many different gourmet coffee brands including Green Mountain, Caribou, Emeril’s, Newman’s Own, Gloria Jean’s, and Timothy’s. You will find numerous distinctive flavors and roasts to suit any taste.

On the downside, k-cups are expensive. You can end up paying as much as $.63 per cup with certain brands of coffee. For example, a box of 22 Green Mountain Variety Flavor K-Cups costs $13.95. You may find a few websites that offer discount k-cups, but even so they tend to be expensive compared to other coffee brewing methods.

There are a couple of ways you can avoid buying so many costly k-cups if you own a k-cup brewer. One of these is a reusable coffee filter you can fill with your own grounds. Using this type of filter you still have to mess with wet grounds, and reviewers will tell you they don’t make nearly as good of a cup of coffee as the originals, but they make single cup brewers much less expensive to use. You can also reuse k-cups 10 to 20 times provided you buy reusable plastic lids and put in your own coffee grounds.

Coffee pods are also pre-measured packets of all different kinds of coffee. These pods are filters that are heat sealed to keep the coffee in them fresh. They have been likened to tea bags, but the coffee they produce is fresh-brewed, because single cup coffee makers brew coffee one cup at a time. Pods are available in dozens of varieties, and where some people have complained that k-cups are very limited in the flavors they offer, there is no problem with that when it comes to coffee pods. Companies, such as Senseo, produce their own coffee pods to specifically fit their coffee makers; however, there are numerous standardized pods available that you can use also.

Once again, the problem with coffee pods is that they are expensive. Although they don’t run as much per cup as k-cups do, they are still more expensive than either a drip coffee maker or a French press. As with k-cups, there are alternatives to using the premade packets. You can buy a machine and make your own heat-sealed pods, or you can buy adapters for some brewers that allow you to use regular coffee grounds. Another negative that some people have found with certain coffee pods is that they make coffee that is too weak. To remedy this problem they use two pods per cup which doubles the price of each cup of coffee.

As with most products these days, it all depends on personal preference and budget. You will find lots of online reviews from people loving their k-cup brewers as well as reviews from those who are very happy with their coffee pod coffee makers. Therefore, it’s pretty much up to you to weigh the options and decide which type of brewing system is right for you.
